Temptation took everything but Frank found Freedom in Christ

An irresistible temptation, a momentary slip and a lapse of good judgement lead Frank Barnes straight into the hands of the devil as he watched his world unravel before his eyes.

It is easily done, giving in to the enticement of things that seem pleasurable, but Frank learned the hard way that terrible consequences always follow.

"When I was growing up life was easy because I was depending on my parents but when I got married things were harder as I was now responsible for my own family," Frank shares.

As the head of the home, Frank knew the decisions he made would affect his whole family, yet like many men, alcohol became more and more important to him.

"I was struggling with drinking too much alcohol but thinking it was okay," he confesses.

"I used to drink while I was working and sometimes I would stay and not even go to work, it was that bad."

This poor decision making took a worse turn when he found himself in a compromising situation alone at home with his young step-daughter one day.

Ashamed at himself, Frank confesses that he slept with this underage girl and as a result was sent to prison.

The temptations and bad decisions he had made haunted him in this place and Frank knew that deep inside himself he needed to change.

Something sparked hope in his heart when he noticed something different in some of the prisoners around him.

"I decided to become a Christian because I was touched by the things I saw God doing with other prisoners. I saw these born-again Christians with their lives changing from inside out."

After curiously seeking more information about why there was such a difference in these people's lives Frank says, "I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour when I discovered the promise in God's Word that He will forgive anyone who humbly turns to Him."

He may have lost everything from his family to his reputation and freedom but today Frank says He is grateful that his past sins could be erased because of the shed blood of Jesus Christ for him on the cross.

No longer living for himself but for Jesus, Frank holds onto God's promise in 1 Corinthians chapter 10 verse 13, "The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."
