Maduna Joubert Mathibedi enjoyed a peaceful childhood but when his father died things took a turn for the worst.

In his younger years, when his parents gave him everything he needed, Maduna would often pray to God for His blessing, but after his father passed away he forgot to trust in God through his trials.

"Due to stress after my father passed away and when my mother started to struggle, I started to smoke, drink and abuse substances," Maduna admits.

Instead of relying on God to meet all his needs Maduna shoplifted and was arrested and sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

It was here that he found his way back to trusting in God for all his needs.

"I realised that life without God is difficult and that we can't do anything without Him. He is the Creator of everything," he shares.

As Jesus explained in Matthew 6 verse 25 to 34, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?"

"Look at the birds of the air," Jesus added, "they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ... But seek first (God's) kingdom and His righteousness [that is, surrender to Jesus and trust in His forgiveness], and all these things will be given to you as well."

Maduna realised that he needed to put all his trust in Jesus and prove his faith in God through obeying His commands.

"By Jesus' death on the cross and the love He has for his children, Jesus can forgive all our sins and teach us how to forgive other people," he shares after recommitting his life to God.

"A verse that brings me comfort is John 14 verse 27, where Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
