Illness and unsettling dreams about the spiritual world made Victor Mutandagai fearful about the future until he realised that nothing could separate him from God's love.
"I frequently had visions of heaven, hell, spiritual beings and the Armageddon [end-times battle]," Victor shares.
"I felt like the Devil was after my life because I got cancer and a bone cyst in my jaw-bone. I used to experience spiritual attacks from the time I was 13 years old."
Victor grew up in a strong Christian family in Zimbabwe. While he knew much about God, Victor knew he did not have a personal relationship with God.
"I felt an inner emptiness and inadequacy in my spirit," Victor explains.
"I was reluctant to approach God [for salvation and forgiveness] because I felt unworthy. I felt like I had to attain a few things for my status and self-esteem before thinking my salvation could be permanent."
After surviving four operations for the cancer and cyst, Victor confidently says God was watching over his life.
"I asked myself 'why is the Devil so interested in extinguishing my life? That would mean I have a divine purpose which he fears!" he recalls thinking.
Another struggle in Victor's life was peer pressure and the temptation of alcohol and smoking.
"I met a couple of friends who were into partying, alcohol and the so-called teen fun. Though I hated alcohol with a passion, I would feel a bit out of place abstaining when I was among peers who drank, consequently I ended up sipping on a couple of drinks, but I never got drunk."
The big difference in Victor's life came when he noticed how his neighbour had a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. This convinced Victor that he too wanted to make Jesus his personal Lord and Saviour.
With the help of his neighbour Victor prayed and asking Jesus to take control of his life. He recalls he had an immediate powerful experience of God.
A few weeks later Victor recalls having a vision of Jesus' return to earth at the end times which seemed so real.
"From that day I began preaching to people in my neighbourhood (telling them about Jesus' return)"
Some trusted in Jesus. I then joined the local evangelism team.
"I thank the Lord God for His Word which says, 'the days of our ignorance are forgiven but now the Lord commands all men to repent [turn away from their wrongdoing]'."
His experiences with dreams about the spiritual world, illness and temptations helped Victor to see the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
"My experiences have made me realise that God loves us no matter what state we are in," he says.
"The Bible says that while we were yet sinners Jesus reconciled (reunited) us unto God."
us no matter
we are in”With the understanding that his salvation is secure because of what Jesus did on the cross, Victor adds that he has a joy in his life that endures through hard times.
"Suffering is now bread to me for my focus is upon Christ and I know suffering will only shape my character (see Romans 5:3-4). Also, because of the power of the Holy Spirit over my life, I don't fear any spiritual attack because I know God will never allow me to be tried above my capacity (to endure)."
Victor says he lost some friends when he decided to follow Jesus rather than be pressured into doing things that he knows God disapproves of. However he soon had new friends who helped strengthen him and encourage him spiritually.
"This proves that if a man is in Christ he is a new creature, the old is past and the new has come. I was once weak in spirit but now I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (see Philippians 4:13)," he says.
To others, Victor has a strong passion to share the good news of assured salvation for those who trust in Jesus Christ.
"May His divine provision for all you need, spiritually and physically, be experienced in your lives," he concludes.
"The truth of the matter is without God in your life you are dead (in your sins), with Christ you are raised with Him through His resurrection.
"The Lord is calling you today, answer while you still have time."•
