So many times Pastor Greg Locke is asked the question by sceptics and atheists: "If your God is real, if He's so good, why does He allow such suffering?"
Greg admits that if he had all the answers he would be God himself and not need faith, but one way he often responds is:
"Some years ago I was preaching in Nigeria and I took along an American preacher friend, Bobby, who has severe cerebral palsy, walks with crutches and has his legs in braces.
"We were waiting in the airport lounge on the return journey when a man tripped over my friends' legs and spilt his coffee. He apologised profusely and the two men struck up a conversation.
The man was a devout atheist and he and Bobby began to talk about the gospel [good news
of Jesus' life and death]. Bobby shared the story about how he came to believe in Jesus and about his disability.
"About 45 minutes later, the atheist stood up in anger and frustration and demanded: 'If your God is so real, why do you have those braces on your legs? Tell me that!' And Bobby calmly answered: 'So that you could trip over my legs, ask me that question and we could have this conversation.'
"You see, God reveals Himself in some of the most unbelievable ways. All you have to do is pay attention," Greg concludes.•
