We are richer than we think
Australians are like most people in other western nations, in that we all think we are worse off than we actually are. Australian newspaper the Sydney Morning Herald in 2017 reported on one study.
The interactive calculator asked readers to guess how their household income compared with the rest of Australia.
About 80 per cent of users ranked their incomes somewhere in the middle three bands; less than half actually belonged here.
The majority of Australians believe they worse off financially then they actually are. This is not surprising as people seek to give the impression of wealth via the status symbols, which leaves everyone around them feeling poor.
It is another reminder that we would all do well to learn the great Apostle Paul's secret of a good life, learn to be content with whatever you have.
"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you'." (Hebrews 13:5)•
