Anele Doshane was so busy living for himself that he didn't notice his life going from a path of light to a path of darkness, until he ended up in prison.
Before being incarcerated Anele would profess that he was a Christian, like his Mom and brother were, but he drifted away from God because sin looked so inviting.
"I found myself in darkness because I had lost my way and started doing things that I knew I shouldn't," Anele admits. "Things got so bad I was not able to identify the difference between right and wrong anymore, and this got me into trouble and into prison.
"In prison I had the time to refocus my life and I began to see and understand Bible verses like Romans chapter 6 and verse 23 which says, 'The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.'"
Anele remembers going to Sunday school as a child and having thoughts of God especially when times were tough. As he grew up he continued to have his struggles along the way. "Sometimes when I was stressed or was having difficulties I would smoke weed to help me get rid of the stress and or deal with my difficulties.
"In prison I began to see that God had a purpose for me as I read Jeremiah chapter 29 and verse 11 which says, 'For I know the thoughts that I think towards you' says the Lord, 'thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.'
"Even though I had drifted from my relationship with God I could see that God still loved me and that He was so compassionate towards me. I could see that He is the Prince of Peace and the King of Kings and because of that I had nothing to fear," says Anele joyfully.
His return to the Lord came via a pastor preaching at the correctional center. "He preached the Word of God which I grabbed as it spoke into my life. I made a recommitment of my life to Jesus Christ and my life was once again changed, as I believed what that man said," Anele remembers.
"A verse that spoke to me was from Isaiah 55:11 which says, 'So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.'
"So I want to thank the Lord my Savior, Jesus Christ for enabling me to turn away from doing wicked things, which I now realize were sin, and for bringing me back into a right relationship with Him. I now live for Jesus Christ and I do everything, not to please man, but to please God."•
