Gatawa Dlamini struggled with alcohol, marijuana and women. He "was in the darkness, following the world". Then, he heard about Jesus.
"I was born into a family of eight children," he shares. "Our family did not know the power of God. All of us were church-goers but none of us were Christians. I realised that there was a gap that needed to be filled."
Gatawa attended a church service in Zimbabwe where he heard the Word of God preached.
"I heard that Jesus is the only Way and that He died in order for my sin to be forgiven and for me to have an eternal life," he says. "So I committed my life to Christ. I believed in my heart and confessed with my mouth that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and He is calling for me to repent."
Gatawa found it hard to quit his past sins, but "by the grace of God ... He took away all of those things".
Gatawa then preached the Word of God to his family and all of them were saved.
A downward spiral began in his life when Gatawa got involved with a gang and perpetrated a robbery resulting in his being tried, convicted and sent to jail.
"I know I committed my crime due to being involved with this gang that I had joined via some bad friends," he admits. "I was sentenced to serve thirteen years."
Gatawa says he is a changed man as a result of going into prison. He realised the error of his ways and has gotten his life right with God.
"Now I can have mercy for other people and I have also learnt to forgive other people," he says happily. "I am able to preach the Gospel to the world.
"God has helped me to understand the power of the Holy Spirit and given me understanding in the Word of God. I can explain this to other people who do not know the power of the cross."
One verse that has really stood out to Gatawa is Ephesians 6 verse 11, "Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."
"So in whatever situation or circumstance you find yourself, remember that God is alive and that He will never leave you alone," Gatawa boldly exclaims.
To other people who find themselves in similar circumstances, Gatawa says, "I would like to tell you that Jesus died for our sin! He wants to save us from the hands of the devil. You can fight against him because you are not alone. God is with us."•
