Plagued by evil

Otukile Zetro

From a young age Otukile Zetro, of Botswana, knew that there was more to reality than what he could perceive with his senses. He was troubled by very real evil spirits and had out-of-body experiences, where his spirit left his body and flew around at night. He knew the spirits that plagued him were not his friends and in fact wanted to kill him.

As he got older he began drinking alcohol in excess and thinking of killing himself. Sometimes the spirits would come upon him and fill him with such rage that he would desire to kill others or beat them up. He also couldn't forgive anyone who offended or hurt him, and he was filled with hatred.

However, when Otukile was 19 he heard a pastor preaching from the Bible about how Jesus came to earth to die for people's sins and to save them from evil forces. Otukile decided there and then he needed to be rescued from evil and invited Jesus into his life.

"I wanted to live a good life. Jesus Christ transformed me because I did not know before this how to pray or read the Bible. The Holy Spirit (the invisible person of God) has helped me to tell others the good news about Jesus."

It is 22 years since that life-changing decision. Otukile is now a full-time public speaker and uses his platform to tell people all about his faith. He has married a wonderful woman named Grace and they have five children. All these blessings Otukile attributes to God's goodness in saving him, because he says that otherwise the evil spirits would have killed him long ago.

"After I became a Christian, friends and family didn't like me anymore because I wouldn't go to the traditional doctors with them, but the peace and joy I gained from Jesus was worth losing those relationships. And God has provided for me and protected me down through the years."

After his harrowing experiences with spiritual danger and evil, it is not surprising that Otukile's favourite Bible passage is Psalm 91, which is well-known as the protection Psalm. It says, in verses 2-4:
This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armour and protection.
